The trader lost $25.8 million due to an error with the address when transferring tokens

A user with the pseudonym qklpjeth lost access to 7,912 ezETH (around $25.8 million) after sending tokens to the wrong address. The incident occurred on June 19, when qklpjeth accidentally copied the wrong data and transferred the funds to a smart contract that does not support withdrawals.
After an unsuccessful attempt to resolve the issue through Renzo developers, who could updаte the code but cited “regulatory restrictions,” the user turned to the community for help. On November 10, he offered a 10% reward (around $2.5 million) for help in returning the funds.
One of the participants in the discussion attributed qklpjeth’s issue to outdated aspects of the ERC-20 standard, which does not prevent such errors. He noted that if a similar operation were performed with ETH, the transaction would simply return an error, but this protection mechanism does not work with tokens.
Harrison Seletsky, director of development at the SPACE ID platform, called the incident a “wake-up call” and emphasized that the crypto industry should work on improving the user experience. “It’s amazing that simple copying errors are still costing people millions,” he noted.
